HydraFacial cleansing steps and who benefits

This guide helps you prepare for a HydraFacial visit by putting the questions in order. It does not describe the treatment for you, because providers run their own versions. Instead it shows you how to get each provider's steps in writing and how to judge whether the treatment suits your skin.

Start with what a facial is

Read a general explanation of facials before you read any menu. The Cleveland Clinic article Facials: What Are They, and What Do They Really Do? is a good place to begin. Note the terms it uses so you can compare them with the words on a provider's page.

Get the cleansing steps in order

Ask the provider to name every step of the visit in sequence. For each step, ask what it is for and what product or tool it uses. Write the list down. Compare lists from two providers. Where they differ, ask why.

Compare similar-sounding services

Providers sometimes offer more than one facial that sounds alike. Ask how the HydraFacial differs from the other options on the menu. As one example of a similar category, read about dermalinfusion, also sold as the DiamondGlow facial, and ask whether a provider treats the two as the same thing.

Work out who benefits

Do not assume the answer. Ask the provider these questions:

  • Which skin concerns is this facial meant to address?
  • Which skin types or conditions would make you advise against it?
  • How soon after the visit should the skin be judged?
  • What should I do if my skin reacts badly?

Write down the provider's name and the date next to the answers.

Plan the days after

Ask for aftercare in writing. A dermatologist's list of skin care tips can help you check that the advice you receive fits the basics of a daily routine, and where it differs, ask why.

A prep recap to bring to your HydraFacial consult

Read first, get the steps in order, compare similar services, ask who benefits and plan the days after. Keep your notes and compare at least two providers before booking. We are an independent prep guide with no clinic of our own, so let a licensed clinician who has seen your skin make the call on it.
